As Government Drills for Cosmic Big One

The strange saga of NASA Invoking Ancient Gods continues as Osiris OSIRIS REx (short for Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security – Regolith Explorer),commenced studying near-Earth asteroid Bennu’s dust plumes on the infamous day of destruction-11 September. OSIRIS namesake of the god of the underworld is using an incentive algorithm offering the thrill of treasure (about the origin of earth) with the additional potential bonus of billions of dollars to each man, woman, and child.

The probes will achieve orbit around the space rock on 31 December 2018, it will further explore that body’s dust, dirt, and gravel .In mid-2020, OSIRIS-REx will descend onto the surface to collect and return a sample of material to Earth in a special return capsule.

The newly established Space Force is saying that this is a significant step both for extraterrestrial but also the future Operational Environment in Multi-Dimensional Operations within the Inter-Space Domain.  The US is showing its dominate prowess in light of Japan’s Hayabus2 spacecraft which is preparing to touch down on the asteroid Ryugu this month.

“The $800 million OSIRIS-REx mission will … contribute to planetary-defense efforts. For example, the probe’s observations should help researchers better understand the forces that shape potentially dangerous asteroids’ paths through space… (Bennu itself is potentially hazardous; there’s a very small chance that it could hit Earth in the late 22nd century.)”

NASA has estimated the total value of resources locked in asteroids is equivalent to $100 Billion for every man, woman, and child on Earth.  NASA is using an incentive algorithm to garnish your favor for this project and others.  With AI you do not have to produce results but merely the potential to achieve whatever you are boasting about.

This century’s new space race seeks to cash in and exploit our solar system’s heretofore untapped mineral wealth, while defending critical space assets.  Not to mention we have the potential to be hit by an asteroid.  There is that word ‘potential’ again.

How prepared are we for a Cosmic Event?

Today an asteroid named 2012 TC4  will do a close flyby, as close as 6,800 kilometers (4,200 miles) above the Earth’s surface, thus NASA is using it as a test object for an observational campaign.

NASA is conducting preparedness drills rehearsing various aspects of an asteroid impact, such as deflection, evacuation and disaster relief, with other entities in the past in preparation for the Cosmic Big One.

The goal of the TC4 exercise is to recover, track and characterize 2012 TC4 as a potential impactor in order to exercise the entire system from observations, modeling, prediction and communication.

“This is a team effort that involves more than a dozen observatories, universities and labs across the globe so we can collectively learn the strengths and limitations of our planetary defense capabilities,” said Reddy, who is coordinating the campaign for NASA PDCO.

Personally, I am not as concerned about an asteroid impact as I am about NASA invoking the ancient god OSIRIS, the god of the underworld, beginning its mission on September 11 and what mission has potential to bring home.
